Fun Saturday Eggs in a Bag

Here's a fun and easy recipe to do with the kids one morning. Let the kids even build their own omelet.

To start use a ziploc baggie, if you are doing a lot at once get the freezer bag ones that let you write on the bag so you know who's eggs are whose.

So now everyone has their bags in hand. Crack open 2 eggs per bag, you can shake them up a little before adding in the "extras" or you can do it all at once.

Now add your favorite omelet ingredients like:
  • Ham
  • Green Peppers
  • Tomato
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Onion
  • Red Pepper
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Pre-Cooked Ground Sausage

Whatever strikes your fancy and whatever you like.

Once you have all of your toppings in you can add a couple of dashes of salt & pepper to taste, zip up the bag and smoosh everything together until well mixed.

Next add the bag to a pot of boiling water and boil until cook through. Now the cooking times I have seen listed range from 5 minute all the way to 13 minutes so I tend to average the times and it works the best so cooking for about 8-9 mins works the best for me.

This is also a great camping dish to make!

Try it & Enjoy!

Cake Doughnuts

So Joe wanted to make doughnuts a while back. . .from scratch. I was exhausted that day so I just printed up a recipe real quick and told him to have at it. He made them and they turned out like fried rings of something unidentifiable.

But some of the rings that were fatter tasted like they should have. So I wanted to give it a go. I also quadrupled the recipe to accommodate our large family. As it is we can't order just one dozen of doughnuts and be satisfied. Now we need at least 2 dozen and 3 dozen if we want some to snack on later in the day. Since Joe used the original recipe and it BARELY made enough tiny squashed doughnut I knew I needed more.

8 C. Flour
2 C. Sugar
1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp Salt
¼ C. Baking Powder
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Nutmeg
1 Stick Butter Melted
2 C. Milk
4 Eggs

  • Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix in butter until crumbly. With a mixer; mix in milk and egg until well incorporated. Divide dough into manageable section and then turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter, or use two round biscuit cutters of different sizes.
  • Carefully drop doughnuts into hot oil, a few at a time. Do not overcrowd pan or oil may overflow. Fry, turning once, for 3 minutes or until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  • GLAZE:
    2 Cups Powdered Sugar
    6 Tbsp Milk
Some lemon or lime juice to taste.
  • POWDER:
    2 Cups Powdered Sugar
    ¼ Cup Cinnamon
    ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • Recipe Yields apx 3 Dozen Doughnuts and 3 Dozen Doughnut Holes

    Candy Corn Cookies

Ok, again I LOVE baking and I love finding super simple easy recipes that are fun and inventive!

Well today through Tip Junkie I found yet another wonderfully fun and easy cookie recipe on Tidymom that are just perfect for Halloween!

    CANDY CORN COOKIES

    Refridgerator Sugar Cookie Dough
Orange Food Coloring (*or red and yellow)
    Bakers Bittersweet Chocolate
    Bakers White Chocolate

Take refrigerated cookie dough (I used 2 rolls and got about 30 cookies) add orange food coloring (*or red and yellow to make orange) Knead the dough until orange. Roll dough and cut cookies with candy corn cookie cutter (or you can use a triangle cookie cutter). Bake for 10 mins. Let cool. Dip bottom of cooled cookie in melted Baker's chocolate, and dip top end in melted white Baker's Chocolate. Freeze for 5 mins. to set.

    ~ENJOY!~

I'm sure you could even replace the store bought sugar cookie dough with your favorite recipe as well.

    Talk about easy and FUN!

I am hoping I'll get around to making some of these this week. I may make them for the Halloween party. That would be really fun!

    Tie Dye Cookies

So in my other blog I posted about the rainbow cookies. Well I finally got around to making them but we used different colors. They were the colors the kids wanted to use. Purple (Sariah), Blue (Mason), Pink (Rachel), & Green (Liam).

I tried to make the cookies using the snake method, but it was becoming too time consuming.

So I reverted to the ball and press method, and decided to call them Tie Dye Cookies instead, because of the effects it made with the cookies.

The dough really does work like play dough, only a tad more breakable. The cookies taste kind of like the butter cream cookies I make but softer. So they were goo but needed some icing I thought.

Later on in the night I whipped up some butter cream icing and iced most of them and they were a lot better. Down side was covering up the tops of the cookies, since they were so beautiful. I think if I were to do this for a party or to give to someone, I'd be sure to ice the bottoms and also add colored sugar sprinkles to the bottom of the icing too so that way you could display the pretty Tie Dye Tops without having the icing get all over the place.

As for ease? The ball and press was a LOT easier for the kids too. They all had fun rolling and pressing them out too.

    Jaylen the cookie monster!

    The kids enjoying their cookies!

    They're GREAT!

    Who liked the cookies? "Meeeeeeeeeee!"

    Making some silly faces!
